Our Story
Why the name JOY Tails?
Our beloved friend, Natanya JOY Mallin-Jameson fought a courageous battle with a rare synovial sarcoma cancer. She was a dog lover, a human lover, and truly, a lover of life! In fact, she was all about relationships. She had a gift, maybe a 'mission' to help everyone she met find their own JOY. Natanya JOY died on Valentine's Day, 2014 at the age of 27. Her legacy of love and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a JOY to know!
Mission
We want to give thanks to those furry friends who hold special places in our hearts. Animals bring happiness into our lives and become natural caretakers through tough times. It is our mission to help your pet express his or her unique personality, while helping to develop the lasting bonds between animals and people.
Youth & Pet Survivors
With every bandana you purchase, Joy Tails will give $1.00 to YAPS© (Youth and Pet Survivors). YAPS© is a pen pal program that matches pediatric oncology patients with dogs and cats who have survived cancer or other serious medical conditions. Children and pets (via their owners) establish relationships and communicate through letter writing.
This allows children the unique opportunity to share feelings about having cancer with a safe, unconditionally loving animal. YAPS child participants report enhanced well-being; YAPS pet owners report a sense of contribution knowing that their pet’s illness can make a difference in a child’s life. The program has met with tremendous success, with over one hundred child and animal families participating in YAPS since it began in 2001.
